Priory Rotary Club of King’s Lynn has completed the planting of a line of trees in South Wootton. Trees border a footpath leading from Nursery Lane to Wootton Park along the edge of a field donated by Hopkins Homes to South Wootton Parish Council in association with a recent housing development. The Parish Council supported the project and the club received help and advice from South Wootton in Bloom.

The project was funded by a grant from the Branching Out Fund run by the Tree Council and consisted of 10 trees about 3-4m tall including whitebeam, hornbeam, field maple and red maple. The trees were planted on a crisp and bright December day and members of the club were helped in the planting by volunteers from South Wootton in Bloom and children from North Wootton Primary School, who will also help to maintain them while they become established.
“It has been very gratifying to complete this project working in partnership with the Parish Council, The Tree Council, South Wootton in Bloom and North Wootton Primary School. The trees will make an important contribution to the character of this new public space, improve biodiversity and help to address climate change. We hope to be able to plant more trees there in future”, said Richard High of Priory Rotary Club. “It was also really rewarding to work with the school children who were so enthusiastic, hardworking and capable.”
